Minor Dalit Sisters Found Hanging From Tree In UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri
Guwahati: In a shocking incident, two young sisters’ bodies were recovered hanging from a tree in Lalpur Majra Tamoli Purva village of the Lakhimpur Kheri district in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.
According to reports, the deceased belonged to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community.
The incident occurred under the Nighasan police station in the Lakhimpur Kheri district.
Locals including the victims’ families blocked the road and protested, calling for justice for the girls. They held a protest at the Nighasan crossing and claimed that three men had raped and murdered the sisters.
Lakhimpur Kheri superintendent of police (SP) Sanjiv Suman along with a police team hurried to the scene and promised the people that the offenders would face harsh punishment.
The Lucknow range inspector general (IG) of police Laxmi Singh was quoted by ANI as saying, “Dead bodies of two girls were found hanging from a tree in a field outside a village in Lakhimpur Kheri. No injuries were found on the bodies.”
The bodies have been removed and sent for post-mortem examination; those results have not yet been made public. “Other matters to be determined following post-mortem. We’ll work to move the investigation along, said IG Singh.
The officials there pleaded with the people to end the barrier and assist with the post-mortem investigation.
Meanwhile, the Congress has raised concerns about the state of law and order in the wake of the tragedy.
Congresswoman Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed sadness over the event, stating, “The incident of the murder of two sisters in Lakhimpur (UP) is heart-wrenching. According to the relatives, the girls were taken in broad daylight. Giving bogus adverts every day on television and in newspapers does not enhance law and order. After all, why is UP experiencing an increase in terrible crimes against women?
Further details in the matter are awaited.
