Minor rescued from child marriage in Assam’s Hailakandi
Guwahati: Despite the government’s efforts to eradicate the practise of child marriage from the state, a child marriage case has been reported in Assam’s Hailakandi district.
According to reports, family members compelled a minor girl in the Syedbandh area of the Algapur constituency in Hailakandi district into a forced marriage against her will on Friday.
It has been found that the victim girl’s family members allegedly bound her with an iron chain and locked her in a room.
The Hailakandi District Child Protection Unit and ChildLine collaborated to rescue the underage girl from the clutches of her notorious family after receiving a tip.
Meanwhile, she is in the Hailakandi District Child Protection Unit’s secure custody.
