Miscreants Halt Trucks Transporting Essential Commodities in Manipur
Northeast Desk, 17th June: In another alarming incident, trucks carrying essential commodities to the valley districts were intercepted by miscreants in Leingangpokpi, Tamenglong district. These vehicles, traveling from Jiribam to Imphal along National Highway 53, were stopped, disrupting the supply chain.
This follows a similar event on June 15, where a mob in Bishnupur district’s Tronglaobi Awang Leikai area set ablaze two trucks loaded with construction materials meant for a bridge. The trucks, part of a four-vehicle convoy heading to Churachandpur, were stopped around 3 pm. One truck was completely destroyed, while another suffered partial damage before state and central security forces intervened to save the remaining two trucks.
According to a driver, the convoy had loaded materials at Sekmai and was en route to Singhat in Churachandpur, a trip previously made under security escort. The trucks were carrying materials critical for constructing a bridge on National Highway 102-B Churachandpur-Tuivai Road. All drivers involved were non-locals.
The confrontation began when the trucks were stopped at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai. Upon questioning, the mob learned the destination was Churachandpur and directed the trucks to a local ground. As news spread, a large crowd gathered, setting one truck on fire, which then spread to partially burn an adjacent truck.
These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges in maintaining supply routes and ensuring the safety of transport operations in the region.
