Miscreants Open Fire Along Assam-Arunachal Border, 2 Dead and 2 Injured

Guwahati, 5 June: New border-related violence broke out leaving one person dead and another injured at Panbari near Jairampur in Dhemaji district of Assam.

According to reports, three individuals on the Assam side who were planting trees and saplings were shot at by trespassers from the border region between Arunachal and Assam.

The deceased have been identified as Boga Chutia of Assam who was celebrating World Environment Day at the Assam-Arunachal border. On the other hand, Pushpa and Montu Gogoi have been identified as the two people who have reportedly been injured. The injured were taken immediately to the nearby hospital for medical attention.

According to reports, three additional people were kidnapped by unidentified criminals. A search effort has been started by border security forces to find the kidnapped individuals.

Local police and the district administration have reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident. 

Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma batted down the idea that the attack may have been carried out by criminal Arunachalis by claiming that local residents were engaged in a dispute over land.

He declared that the police will conduct a comprehensive investigation into the occurrence with the assistance of the district administration.
