Mising Tribe’s Handloom Heritage Gets GI Tag, Assam Chief Minister Congratulates

New Delhi: In a significant recognition of Assam’s rich cultural heritage, the Mising tribe’s handloom products have been awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

The prestigious certification was formally presented to the “Institute of Handicraft Development” yesterday in New Delhi.

The GI tag, a mark of authenticity and quality, will now safeguard the unique identity of Mising handloom products. This recognition is expected to open new doors for these traditional crafts, boosting market access and global recognition.

Expressing his delight, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the Mising community and the entire state on this achievement. In a message, he emphasized the importance of preserving indigenous crafts and promoting them in the modern market.

The GI tag is not only a testament to the exceptional skills of Mising artisans but also a significant step towards empowering local communities and boosting the state’s economy.
