Missile Strike in Poland,2 Killed
Guwahati: At least two persons were killed on Tuesday after missiles landed in the territory of Poland.
According to reports, the two missiles reportedly fell in the populated area of Przewodow in the Lublin Voivodeship near the Ukrainian border.
The prime minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki called a meeting of the Security Council Committee of the Council of Ministers immediately following the incident.
“The Prime Minister @MorawieckiM called as a matter of urgency the Committee of the Council of Ministers for National Security and Defense Affairs,” government spokesperson Piotr Muller tweeted.
According to Western media, two stray rockets that landed in Polish territory, were fired from Russia.
Meanwhile, the Polish government has summoned the Russian ambassador claiming that a Russian-made missile that was launched into Poland killed two people.
Lukasz Jasina, a spokesman for the Polish foreign ministry issued a statement in which he demanded “prompt full explanations” regarding the incident.
“On 15 November 2022, another hours-long, massive shelling took place of the entire territory of Ukraine and its critical infrastructure by the armed forces of the Russian Federation. At 3:40 pm, a Russia-made missile dropped on the village of Przewodow, district Hrubieszow, Lubelskie province, and resulted in death of two citizens of the Republic of Poland,” the ministry statement said.
The United States on the other hand emphasised the necessity to gather all the information before drawing any conclusions about allegations of missiles potentially striking Poland.
The Pentagon’s press secretary Pat Ryder stated during a news briefing, “We want to deal with facts.”
Following the explosion in Poland’s east on Tuesday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expressed his sympathies to President Andrzej Duda and said that the organisation is “watching the situation.”
“Spoke with President Duda @prezydentpl about the explosion in #Poland. I offered my condolences for the loss of life. #NATO is monitoring the situation and Allies are closely consulting. Important that all facts are established,” Stoltenberg tweeted.
