Mizo Zirlai Pawl Criticizes External Opposition to Cattle Slaughter in Mizoram

Northeast Desk, 15th September: The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the apex students’ body in Mizoram, has voiced strong opposition to external organizations advocating against the slaughter of cattle in the state. The MZP issued a statement rejecting any attempts by such groups to interfere with the cultural and traditional practices of the Mizo people, particularly the consumption of beef.

“MZP believes that such interference undermines the identity and way of life of the Mizo community,” the statement read. The student body specifically urged organizations, including Shree Jyotirmath, to respect the cultural values of Mizoram and avoid promoting actions that infringe on the state’s customs.

In addition to this, the MZP expressed concern over challenges faced by Mizoram’s Scheduled Tribes in retaining the income tax exemption provided under Article 10 (26) of the Income Tax Act, 1961. The body emphasized the need for action on this issue.

The MZP also requested the Mizoram government to establish at least one Inspector General of Police (IGP) position under the Mizoram Police Service (MPS), as a step toward addressing administrative and security needs in the state.
