Mizoram: AICC Chairman Jairam Ramesh Outlines Congress Vision for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Aizawl
Northeast Desk, 13th April: In a press conference held in Aizawl, Mizoram, Jairam Ramesh, Chairman of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), underscored the significance of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections for upholding India’s democracy, emphasizing its crucial role in safeguarding the nation’s diversity and unity.
Ramesh criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging their pursuit of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) could potentially undermine India’s linguistic and ethnic diversity. He contrasted this with the Congress party’s commitment to preserving national unity while respecting the unique identities of various linguistic and ethnic groups.
Drawing attention to recent events in Manipur, Ramesh accused the BJP of evading accountability for troubling incidents, citing this as evidence of the party’s divisive tactics.
Expressing concern over the repeal of Article 370 and potential threats to Article 370(G), which safeguards the identity and culture of the Mizos, Ramesh highlighted the need to protect the rights and interests of marginalized communities.
Critiquing the BJP government’s international policies, Ramesh condemned the scapegoating of Myanmar for internal conflicts in India and criticized the termination of the Free Movement Regime with Myanmar.
In addition to his critique, Ramesh unveiled the Congress party’s manifesto for the upcoming elections, outlining key promises aimed at addressing youth unemployment, supporting farmers, empowering women, improving labor conditions, and expediting socio-economic welfare initiatives.
With these promises, the Congress party aims to address pressing issues and foster inclusive development, presenting voters in Aizawl with a clear vision for the future.
