Mizoram: Aizawl Police Detain Five Girls Over Viral Bullying Incident

Aizawl: Authorities in Aizawl have taken five girls, including three minors, into custody after a disturbing video showing them bullying and physically assaulting a juvenile girl surfaced on social media.

The incident, which occurred on March 19, sparked widespread outrage and prompted swift action from law enforcement and child protection officials.

In response to the viral footage, Dr. R. Lalrinhlua, District Child Protection Officer of Aizawl District, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Bawngkawn Police Station on Wednesday morning. The victim has since been admitted to Synod Rescue Home, where authorities are working to secure permission for a medical examination, which is crucial for advancing legal proceedings.

The five alleged perpetrators were identified as residents of the Edenthar BSUP (Basic Services to the Urban Poor) housing complex in Aizawl. Among them, two adult offenders—Belinda Lalruatfeli (19) of Block 8/203 and Ngurthansiami (23) of Block 13/404—were released on a Personal Recognizance (PR) bond pending further legal action. The three juvenile offenders have been presented before the Juvenile Justice Board by the Special Juvenile Unit of Bawngkawn Police Station for appropriate legal measures.

The incident has fueled widespread condemnation on social media, with many demanding strict action against those responsible. Law enforcement officials have assured that legal proceedings will move forward once the victim undergoes a medical evaluation, reinforcing their commitment to holding the perpetrators accountable.
