Mizoram and Assam Chief Ministers Likely to Discuss Border Issues

Northeast Desk, 9th January: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma is anticipated to meet Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma later this month to address border issues between the two states.

The discussion is expected to take place during the North Eastern Council (NEC) plenary session in Shillong on January 19. The NEC session will be chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The border dispute between Mizoram and Assam, stemming from colonial demarcations in 1875 and 1933, escalated in July 2021, resulting in fatalities and injuries.

Both states have since engaged in dialogues to maintain peace along the boundary and find a resolution. The upcoming meeting aims to further these efforts.
