Mizoram: Assam Rifles Seized Foreign Cigarettes Worth Rs 2 crore

Guwahati: The Assam Rifles were able to seize a huge quantity of cigarettes with a foreign origin worth Rs. 2.71 crores on Sunday in the Champhai district of Mizoram.

In the Zotlang area of Mizoram, the Sercchip Battalion of the 23 Sector Assam Rifles and the Mizoram Custom Preventive Force carried out a joint operation under the supervision of the Inspector General of the Assam Rifles (East) to seize 209 cases of cigarettes of foreign origin valued at Rs. 2,71,70,000.

In relation to the seizure one person was arrested.

A senior official of Assam Rifles said, “The Assam Rifles team recovered the items which were dumped in the Zotlang area. The approximate cost of the recovered foreign-origin cigarette is Rs. 2,71,70,000. The seized items and detained one individual was handed over to the Customs department, Champhai for further legal proceedings.”
