Mizoram: Assam Rifles Seizes Heroin and Ganja Worth Rs 44.3 Lakh in Champhai District

Northeast Desk, 29th February: At least four individuals, including a Myanmar national, were apprehended for possessing heroin and ganja valued at Rs 44.3 lakh in two separate operations conducted by Assam Rifles in east Mizoram’s Champhai district, as per an official statement released on Wednesday.

Based on intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles personnel conducted a raid at Zokhawthar on the Mizoram-Myanmar border on Monday, leading to the confiscation of 39 grams of heroin with an estimated worth of Rs 27.3 lakh from the possession of three drug peddlers, the statement disclosed.

In a parallel operation on the same day, the paramilitary force seized an additional 24 grams of heroin valued at Rs 12 lakh and 5 kg of ganja worth Rs 5 lakh at Vaikhawtlang in Champhai district. During this operation, a Myanmar national was arrested for being in possession of the contraband, it further informed.

Following the seizures, along with the detention of the four suspects, Assam Rifles promptly handed over the seized narcotics and the apprehended individuals to the state police for further investigation and legal proceedings, the statement concluded.
