Northeast Desk, 31st October: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized BJP leaders, including JP Nadda and Nitin Gadkari, for finding fault with their ally, the Mizo National Front (MNF), in Mizoram, which is part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Ramesh accused the BJP of hypocrisy, claiming that they had previously overlooked MNF’s non-performance and corruption over the past five years but were now finding fault.
Ramesh cited a similar situation in Meghalaya where Amit Shah had criticized his ally, Conrad Sangma’s government, as the most corrupt in the country during an election campaign but later supported him. He argued that the BJP misuses regional parties, and the people of the Northeast suffer as a result. Ramesh asserted that voting for the ZPM and MNF in Mizoram effectively translates to a vote for the BJP.
This response from Jairam Ramesh came after BJP National President JP Nadda targeted the ruling MNF over the Socio-Economic Development Programme (SEDP) during an election rally in Mizoram, raising questions about the program’s actual impact and benefits. Nadda emphasized the success of various central government schemes under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration, which he believed were not fully realized by the people of Mizoram due to the current state government’s shortcomings.
