Mizoram Assembly Elections 2023: 3 days to go for polls, political parties Heats Up Before Polling
Northeast Desk, 4th November: With just three days left before Mizoram’s legislative assembly election for the 40-member assembly, the election campaign has intensified, with political parties seeking votes.
Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), the second-largest party in the assembly, criticized the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) for their five years in power and urged the MNF to leave the BJP-led NDA if they oppose the BJP.
ZPM is resolute about not forming a post-poll alliance with the BJP and aims to form the government independently.
The election is expected to be a fierce contest between MNF and ZPM.
In total, 174 candidates, including 16 women, are in the running for the polls. MNF, ZPM, and Congress have fielded candidates in all 40 seats.
BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are also participating in several seats. Mizoram has a history of high voter turnout, with over 80% participating in previous elections.
The November 7 election is highly anticipated, with regional forces MNF and ZPM vying for victory.
