Mizoram Assembly Elections 2023: Rahul Gandhi likely to visit poll-bound state on October 16
Northeast Desk, 13th October: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to visit the poll-bound state of Mizoram on October 16 for a two-day visit. During his trip, he will interact with the people of Mizoram, spreading a message of love, peace, and secularism for the growth of both the country and the state. On October 16, he will walk with the people from Chandmari junction to the Treasury Bhawan.
Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to return to Delhi on October 18 after attending a morning press conference at the Aizwal Press Club.
In a unanimous decision, the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), representing various political parties, student groups, and NGOs in Mizoram, has formally requested the Election Commission of India (ECI) to reconsider the date of poll counting for the upcoming Mizoram State Legislative Assembly election scheduled for Sunday, December 3. The request is based on the deep-rooted religious and cultural significance of Sundays in Mizoram, where nearly 90% of the population practices Christianity, and Sundays are considered sacred for religious worship. As such, the people of Mizoram typically reserve Sundays for these religious activities, avoiding official programs or business activities.
