Mizoram bans firecrackers during Christmas & New Year
Guwahati: The Mizoram government has prohibited the usage of firecrackers during the Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.
The Mizoram government has declared that fireworks, sky lanterns, and other pyrotechnics will be prohibited during the Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.
Notably, firecrackers and other pyrotechnics were also prohibited during the Diwali celebrations.
Aizawl Superintendent of Police (SP) C Lalruaia stated that “vigilance will be maintained to ensure ban on sale and usage of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic materials throughout the season of Christmas and New Year.”
Mizoram formerly prohibited the sale and usage of fireworks and other pyrotechnics during celebrations to reduce air pollution.
Christmas and New Year are anticipated to be celebrated in Mizoram in a grand manner this year after two years of low-key celebrations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
