Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga Files Nomination for Upcoming Assembly Elections
Northeast Desk, 20th October: Mizo National Front president and current Mizoram Chief Minister, Zoramthanga, filed his nomination papers for the upcoming Assembly elections, scheduled to be held on November 7.
At the age of 79, this seasoned Mizo politician is seeking his fourth term as Chief Minister. If reelected, he would become the longest-serving Chief Minister in Mizoram’s history.
In the 2018 elections, the Mizo National Front (MNF), led by Zoramthanga, secured 27 seats and 38.4% of the votes, resulting in him becoming Chief Minister for the third time. His previous tenures were from 1998 to 2008. Since then, the state saw two terms led by the Congress party under Lal Thanhawla.
The MNF is contesting in all 40 Assembly seats, and the state is set to go to the polls on November 7, with the counting of votes scheduled for December 3.
