Mizoram Churches Unite in Prayer for Indo-Pak Peace Following CM’s Plea

Aizawl: In a heartfelt response to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, churches across Mizoram held special prayer services on the evening of May 10th. This collective spiritual action followed an earnest appeal from the state’s Chief Minister, Lalduhoma, who urged religious institutions to intercede for peace and renewed amity between the two nations.

A prominent church figure revealed that Chief Minister Lalduhoma had specifically requested all churches within Mizoram to dedicate their prayers towards the restoration of peaceful relations and the fostering of friendship between India and Pakistan during this critical period.

Responding swiftly to the Chief Minister’s call, the Council of Churches in Mizoram (CCM), an influential body uniting nine major denominations including the Presbyterian Church of Mizoram and the Baptist Church of Mizoram (BCM), issued a directive to its member congregations. The CCM encouraged these churches to organize special prayer meetings at their discretion, either on Saturday evening or Sunday, with the shared aim of seeking divine intervention to quell the ongoing conflict and re-establish peace in the region.

The church leader further elaborated that the majority of churches affiliated with the CCM heeded the call and incorporated these prayers into their regular Saturday evening worship services. It is anticipated that a smaller number of churches will conduct their special prayer sessions on Sunday.

Beyond the congregations under the CCM umbrella, it is also expected that various other independent churches throughout Mizoram will hold dedicated prayer services. This widespread religious response underscores the deep concern and desire for peace following the recent military conflict between India and Pakistan, a situation that arose in the aftermath of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals.
