Mizoram Congress Party Protests Against Chief Minister’s Controversial Remark

Aizawl: The Mizoram Assembly House road was sealed off on Wednesday as the Congress party staged a protest against Chief Minister Lalduhoma’s contentious remark against Congress MLA C. Ngunlianchunga. The protest was sparked by what the party claims is an insult directed at the senior leader during a recent Assembly session.

Lalhmingthanga Pachuau, President of the Aizawl District Congress Committee (ADCC), condemned the CM’s statement, citing an incident on March 10 where Lalduhoma allegedly ordered C. Ngunlianchunga to apply for an anticipatory bill. Pachuau also claimed that government employees were humiliated without respect, questioning the CM’s use of power.

The Congress party has demanded a public apology from the Chief Minister, asserting that his remarks were not only an attack on a senior MLA but also an affront to democratic principles. To prevent disruptions, security measures were heightened around the Assembly premises, with barricades placed on key roads leading to the Mizoram Legislative Assembly.

The ruling government has yet to issue an official response to the protest or the allegations raised by Congress leaders. The situation remains tense, with opposition leaders vowing to escalate their agitation if the CM does not retract his remarks. Further developments are awaited as political tensions continue to rise in Mizoram.
