Mizoram: Drugs worth Rs 31 crore seized by state police, 2 held

Northeast Desk, 6th February: In a coordinated operation conducted by CID (SB) and Champhai DEF, authorities apprehended two individuals on February 6 after discovering suspected crystal methamphetamine weighing approximately 10.385 grams. The confiscated contraband, estimated to be worth over Rs 31 crore, represents a significant breakthrough in anti-narcotics efforts.

Acting on credible intelligence received from a reliable source, a joint task force comprising CID (SB) and Champhai DEF personnel conducted a raid at Melbuk, Champhai District. During the operation, officials seized 10 packets of suspected crystal methamphetamine with a total weight of 10.385 kilograms.

The individuals found in joint possession of the illicit substance have been identified as Malsawmzuali (38), daughter of ZD Lalvunga, from Lengpui, and Lalchhandama (19), son of Lalthlamuana, also from Lengpui. The investigation is currently underway to ascertain the origin and intended destination of the seized narcotics.

In response to the discovery, a case has been registered under Case No. 6/2024, dated 06.02.2024, pursuant to sections 22 (C) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, at Zokhawthar Police Station.

This operation underscores the authorities’ commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
