Mizoram Empowering Women Through Awareness Campaign on Rights and Health
Champhai, Mizoram: In a bid to empower women in the region, the Mizoram State Commission for Women, in partnership with the Champhai District Programme Officer’s Office and the Women & Child Development Department, hosted an enlightening awareness campaign on women’s rights and health at the Govt. Champhai College Multipurpose Hall. The event aimed to enhance women’s legal awareness, focusing on their rights, health, and nutrition.
Leading the session, C. Zodinpuii, Chairperson of the Mizoram State Commission for Women, emphasized the critical need for women to understand their legal rights. “It is essential for every woman to be aware of her rights to ensure freedom and opportunity in all aspects of life,” Zodinpuii stated, underscoring the importance of knowledge about laws governing personal and social issues in empowering women.
The campaign also spotlighted the commission’s efforts to support women, particularly in preventing incarceration and facilitating police intervention when required. Zodinpuii stressed the government’s commitment to addressing women’s concerns and providing solutions to improve their overall well-being.
In addition to discussions on rights, the session featured valuable presentations, including one by Lalrinmuana, District Programme Officer for Champhai, who focused on Digital Literacy and Cyber Security. C. Vanlalruata, Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel, also shared insights on the Mizoram Marriage, Divorce, and Inheritance of Property Act, 2014, informing participants about legal protections and frameworks in place to safeguard women’s interests.
This campaign marks a vital step in equipping women with the tools needed to exercise their rights and protect their health, fostering a safer and more empowered future for women in Mizoram.
