Guwahati: A massive illegal consignment of foreign cigarettes has been seized by the troopers of Assam Rifles in Champhai district of Mizoram.
The incident took place in the Ruantlang area of the district.
The consignment of foreign cigarettes has been estimated to be of worth over Rs 6 lakh.
As per a press release by the Assam Rifles said that the approximate cost of the recovered foreign origin cigarettes is worth Rs 60,5800.
Reports further claimed that the recovered foreign cigarettes have been handed over to the Customs Department for further legal proceedings.
Massive seizures of illegal consignments of foreign cigarettes have been made by the troopers of the Assam Rifles in the recent times from Champhai district of Mizoram.
Ongoing smuggling of foreign origin cigarettes is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border, the Assam Rifles said.
