Mizoram Government Increases Fuel Prices by Rs 4 per Litre for Infrastructure Development
Northeast Desk, 5th September: The Mizoram government has announced a ₹4 per litre hike in petrol and diesel prices, effective from September 1, to support social infrastructure and road maintenance projects across the state. Taxation Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana explained that the increase includes a new levy of ₹2 per litre for social infrastructure and services, alongside an additional ₹2 per litre for road upkeep.
Despite the increase, the minister emphasized that fuel prices remain lower than the peak levels seen in 2021. He expressed optimism that the hike would encourage citizens to take ownership of the state’s infrastructure improvements.
The decision follows recommendations from the State Resource Mobilisation Committee, which was tasked with identifying ways to boost state revenue. Along with the new levies, the state government has also raised VAT on petrol from 5.23% to 10% and on diesel from 16.36% to 18%.
As a result, the current price of petrol in Aizawl has risen to ₹99.24 per litre, while diesel now costs ₹88.02 per litre, up from ₹93.93 and ₹82.62, respectively.
