Mizoram Government Orders Closure of Non-Essential Offices Due to Cyclone Remal
Northeast Desk, 28th May: In response to the inclement weather conditions and the warning issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding Cyclone Remal, the Mizoram state government has taken proactive measures. On May 28, 2024, all government offices, except those providing essential services such as Disaster Management and Rehabilitation, District Administration, Health and Family Welfare, Mizoram Police, Power and Electricity, Public Health Engineering, among others, have been ordered to remain closed.
Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Mizoram, K Lalthawmmawia, issued the directive, emphasizing the need for caution and safety amidst the cyclonic conditions. The order mandates that officers and staff of the exempted departments continue their operations to ensure the seamless delivery of essential services to the public.
Additionally, the state government has urged Secretaries and Heads of Departments to facilitate remote work arrangements for their respective staff members. This move aims to minimize exposure to potential risks associated with the adverse weather conditions. Furthermore, private sector entities have been advised to implement a similar “work from home” policy for their employees to ensure their safety and well-being.
In concurrence with the government’s decision, the Director of School Education, Lalsangliana, announced the closure of all schools in the state on May 28. This decision aligns with the precautionary measures outlined by the Department of Disaster Management & Rehabilitation, prioritizing the safety of students and staff members.
The state government remains vigilant and proactive in its efforts to mitigate the impact of Cyclone Remal, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility and preparedness in facing such natural calamities.
