Mizoram Government to Launch ‘Bana Kaih’ Programme for Agricultural and Small Industries Development
Northeast Desk, 19th February: Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati announced on Monday that the Mizoram government is set to introduce a flagship programme, named ‘Bana Kaih,’ aimed at facilitating institutional credit for agricultural purposes and small industries. This initiative, termed as a hand-holding policy, will synchronize various schemes and initiatives of the central government, ensuring comprehensive support for economic growth.
In his customary address on the first day of the budget session, Governor Kambhampati emphasized that ‘Bana Kaih’ represents an innovative policy approach to address the challenge of accessing institutional credit, particularly microcredit, for agriculture and small industrial ventures. The programme reflects the commitment of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government, led by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, to prioritize the targeted development of agriculture and allied sectors, constituting approximately 26 per cent of the gross state domestic product (GSDP).
Governor Kambhampati highlighted the core objectives of ‘Bana Kaih,’ including the enhancement of agricultural marketing infrastructure and the safeguarding of farmers’ interests. Special attention will be devoted to sectors such as horticulture, fisheries, veterinary and animal husbandry, and sericulture, recognizing their significance as primary sources of livelihood.
The budget session, scheduled to conclude on March 13, will feature the presentation of the state’s annual budget by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, who also holds the finance portfolio. The ‘Bana Kaih’ programme is poised to catalyze sustainable growth and prosperity across Mizoram, fostering a conducive environment for agricultural and small industries development.
