Aizawl — In a celebration of India’s ancient wellness tradition, Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati attended the 9th National Ayurveda Day at Aizawl’s Assembly Annexe Conference Hall.
Organized by the Directorate of AYUSH under the theme “Ayurveda Innovations for Global Health,” the event highlighted Ayurveda’s role in advancing both national and global health.
Governor Kambhampati emphasized Ayurveda as “a cornerstone of wellness,” tracing its roots to a holistic approach that balances mind, body, and spirit. “Ayurveda is not only gaining popularity in India but also worldwide, addressing conditions such as mental health issues, cancer, stroke, and diabetes,” he said. He encouraged integrating Ayurveda with Mizoram’s rich biodiversity and traditional knowledge to enhance the healthcare system.
Highlighting the international acceptance of Ayurveda, he noted that 24 countries have adopted Ayurvedic practices, and over 100 Ayurvedic products have been exported globally. He urged researchers, government bodies, and entrepreneurs to contribute to the evolution of authentic Ayurvedic practices and innovate for global wellness.
Health & Family Welfare Minister Pi Lalrinpuii, the guest of honor, discussed Ayurveda’s capacity to address modern health challenges, including lifestyle diseases and mental health. She announced a Rs. 1.2 crore project focused on cultivating and processing medicinal plants, aligning with government efforts to integrate AYUSH practices into mainstream healthcare and support medicinal plant initiatives within the hand-holding policy framework.
