Aizawl: Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati attended the 72nd Plenary Meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) held on December 21 at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala, Tripura, where he commended the Ministry of DoNER for its efforts in promoting investment in the region.
The meeting, chaired by Home Minister and NEC Chairman Amit Shah, provided a platform for discussions on various developmental initiatives. Governor Kambhampati emphasized Mizoram’s commitment to attracting investments, noting that the state’s Inter-departmental Investment Promotion Cell (IPC) is actively engaging with investors in sectors such as Tourism & Hospitality and Skill Development.
Highlighting infrastructure challenges, Kambhampati pointed out that 118 villages in Mizoram remain unconnected by all-weather roads, with limited projects under the PMGSY due to fewer habitations. He urged for further support to address these connectivity gaps.
Addressing the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) initiated in Mizoram in 2021, the Governor discussed the challenges hindering its expansion, including insufficient seedlings and poor agricultural farm roads. He stressed the need for a strong market structure to support the mission’s success and proposed the establishment of a dedicated organic certification agency for the region to boost organic farming.
Kambhampati also highlighted the efforts of the Ministry of DoNER in establishing growth and border centers as part of the North East Economic Corridor vision. He urged the Ministry to explore the possibility of integrating cross-border markets to attract investment from neighboring countries.
In line with the region’s development goals, the Governor stressed the importance of Industry 4.0 and the National Education Policy 2020 in promoting vocational education. He called for the establishment of a state-of-the-art Skill Development Centre in Mizoram and advocated for the upgrading of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to bridge the employable skill gap in various trades. Additionally, he proposed creating a common exhibition center in metropolitan cities to promote the region’s handloom, handicrafts, and organic agricultural products.
Kambhampati expressed gratitude for the Centre’s continuous efforts to foster development in the North Eastern States, citing Prime Minister Modi’s emphasis on the importance of North East India during the recent ‘Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav’. He also praised the DoNER Ministry and NEC for formulating the North East Region Vision 2047, describing it as a significant achievement that provides a roadmap for the region’s future growth.
The meeting was attended by Union DoNER Minister Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of State for DoNER Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Governors and Chief Ministers of North Eastern states, and other NEC members.
