Mizoram: Heroin worth Rs 14.56 recovered by Assam Rifles, Myanmar national held

Northeast Desk, 13th February: In a significant operation targeting smuggling, Assam Rifles seized 20.8 grams of Heroin No. 4, valued at Rupees 14.56 Lakh, in the Zote area of Champhai on February 12, 2024.

One Myanmar national was apprehended during the operation, conducted jointly by Assam Rifles and the Excise & Narcotics Department, Champhai, based on specific information.

The entire consignment, along with the accused, has been handed over to the Excise & Narcotics Department for further legal proceedings.

Additionally, in a separate operation led by personnel from Seling Forest Range and Tawi Wildlife Sanctuary, three individuals were arrested for violating the Wildlife Protection Act.

Acting on precise intelligence, forest authorities intercepted the poachers en route to Tawi Wildlife Sanctuary, seizing birds, squirrels, air rifles, ammunition, and other hunting equipment.

The arrested individuals, residents of Tlungvel Village in Aizawl District, were presented before the magistrate and remanded to Central Jail overnight.
