Mizoram: Huge cache of ammunition and explosives seized by Assam Rifles in Siaha district
Northeast Desk, 9th October: In response to specific intelligence regarding the movement of warlike stores towards Myanmar through the Lungbun crossing, a joint operation was launched by the 30th Assam Rifles and Siaha Police on October 8, 2023.
During the operation, two unidentified individuals were observed carrying certain items. When instructed to stop, the two individuals abandoned their bags and fled towards Myanmar, hastily crossing the Kolodyne River. While the suspects managed to evade capture, the bags they left behind contained the following items:
- Gelatine: 100 units
- Detonator: 100 units
- AK-47 ammunition: 150 rounds
- Wire (codex): 10 meters
- Battery cell: 10 units
The recovered items were subsequently presented at Siaha Police Station. A case, Siaha PS Case No.69/2023 dated October 8, 2023, under Section 25(1)(A) of the Arms Act read with Section 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, has been registered against an unknown individual for further investigation and legal action. This operation highlights the efforts to maintain security and prevent illegal activities near the Myanmar border.
