Mizoram Human Rights Commission Faces Delay in Appointments

Aizawl: The Mizoram government is still working to appoint the chairperson, members, and supporting staff of the state human rights commission (SHRC), despite its establishment in October.

Home Department Secretary Vanlalmawia confirmed that the selection committee, headed by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, is currently finalizing its recommendations for these crucial positions.

The state government formed the SHRC in response to a directive from the Gauhati High Court. The court had given Mizoram a strict deadline to establish the commission, threatening contempt proceedings if the deadline was missed.

While the government has created the necessary positions and is working on securing a suitable building for the commission’s headquarters, the appointment process for the chairperson, members, and staff is still ongoing.
