Mizoram Initiates Boundary Committee as Part of ZPM’s First 100 Days Plan
Northeast Desk, 12th January: The Mizoram government, under the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) party’s first 100 days plan, establishes a boundary committee to address various issues, especially those related to the Assam-Mizoram border.
Home Minister K. Sapdanga leads the committee as chairman, with Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Lalthansanga as vice-chairman, and Home Secretary H. Lalengmawia as member secretary.
The committee includes representatives from political parties (MNE, INC, BJP, AAP, and ZPM), NGOs (NGOCC, CYMA, MUP, MHI, MZP, and MSU), JAC on Inner Line Forest Reserved Demand, Mizoram, and others. The Chief Ministers of Mizoram and Assam are expected to discuss border issues during the North Eastern Council (NEC) plenary session on January 19, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
This initiative aims to address the long-standing border dispute between the two states, which escalated in July 2021 with a fatal exchange of fire.
