Mizoram launches Family Oriented SEDP under the State Flagship programme

Guwahati: The Socio-Economic Development Policy (SEDP), the state’s main programme was launched by the Mizoram administration on Friday. It will directly fund 60,000 home families.

The flagship programme of SEDP was officially launched by Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga.

Nine departments will carry out the plan, which will include around 70 distinct sources of income and work with 11 district administrations.

In announcing the programme, Zoramthanga stated that it will benefit 60,000 people with 1,500 coming from each of the 40 assembly districts.

The beneficiaries will receive financial support of Rs 50,000 each to augment their present economic endeavours or to launch new ones during the current fiscal year, he said.

The first amount of Rs 25,000 will be handed to the recipients and credited to their bank accounts, he added.

In addition, Zoramthanga stated that despite the state losing more than Rs 3,000 crores in the form of revenue grants, other central assistances, and other financial devolutions due to the pandemic, his government has set aside more than Rs 300 crores for the implementation of the family-oriented programme of the SEDP in the current fiscal.

During the occasion, he presented bank checks totaling Rs 152.99 crores to 9 implementing departments.

The Mizo National Front (MNF), which is in power launched the SEDP, its flagship initiative, with the goal of fostering sustainable development by fostering rapid advancement in vital industries while upholding equity and equality among individuals.

The flagship programme has been partly implemented in the form of constructing roads, important infrastructures and projects and hiring teachers, among others, since 2019.
