Mizoram: Man Posing as Police Officer Arrested for Harassing Woman in Aizawl

Aizawl: A man posing as a police officer was arrested on January 25 in Aizawl’s Thuampui locality for allegedly harassing a woman.

he accused, David Laldinsanga (26), a resident of Sailulak village currently residing in Aizawl’s ITI area, was apprehended by Bawngkawn Police.

Laldinsanga, wearing a police uniform and carrying a toy pistol in a holster, approached Lalhmangaihsangi (29), a local businesswoman, as she was unloading frozen food from a vehicle outside her home.

He claimed to have received “secret information” about contraband hidden within the parcels and began inspecting the goods. Allegedly under the influence of alcohol, Laldinsanga threatened to arrest Lalhmangaihsangi if she did not comply with his demands.

The situation escalated when actual police officers arrived at the scene and arrested Laldinsanga. Upon investigation, it was found that he was wearing a police uniform complete with a black toy pistol resembling a revolver. The toy weapon and his attire were seized as evidence.

Laldinsanga, who has a criminal history of theft, has been remanded to police custody for 72 hours for further interrogation.

A case has been filed under multiple sections, including impersonation and harassment, and investigations are ongoing.
