Mizoram Minister Urges Investors to Tap into State’s Economic Potential at North East Investors Summit

Aizawl: Mizoram’s Minister of State for Labour, Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (LESDE) and Sports & Youth Services, Lalnghinglova Hmar, called on investors to explore business opportunities in Mizoram, emphasizing the state’s growing economic potential at the North East Investors Summit held in Chennai on February 5.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER), also featured DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Hmar highlighted Mizoram’s strong growth in sectors like agriculture and allied industries. He specifically mentioned the state government’s initiative to purchase key agricultural products like ginger, chilli, turmeric, and broom grass from local farmers to stabilize the market and encourage investment.

The Minister also drew attention to the state’s Geographical Indication (GI) tagged varieties of ginger and chilli, inviting investors to explore opportunities in the processing and marketing of these high-value products.

Additionally, he emphasized Mizoram’s abundant bamboo resources and encouraged the establishment of advanced processing units, with both Hmar and Scindia underlining the region’s immense potential in the bamboo industry.

On the sports front, Hmar encouraged investments in sports infrastructure and training facilities, especially as India prepares its bid for the 2036 Olympics, positioning the Northeast as a hub for athletic talent. He also noted the employability of Mizo youth in the hospitality sector, urging investors to leverage this skilled workforce for industry expansion.

Scindia reinforced the central government’s commitment to supporting the Northeast’s economic growth through policy support and incentives, urging Tamil Nadu-based investors to consider the region’s untapped market potential.

The summit also showcased agricultural prospects from Mizoram, presented by the state’s Special Secretary of Agriculture & Horticulture, Pi Ramdinliani, along with Pi Maria CT Zuali, Director of Commerce & Industries.
