Mizoram: Mizo Student Lalnunthiangi, Missing for 7 Days, Found Dead in Canal
Northeast Desk, 3rd November: The heart-wrenching search for 33-year-old Mizo student, Lalnunthiangi, known as Anuni, has concluded with a devastating discovery on the night of November 2, 2023. Anuni had been missing for seven agonizing days, along with two friends, leaving her family and friends in deep distress.
On October 28, 2023, Anuni, a committed biotechnology student at Thapar University in Patiala, Punjab, and her two friends unexpectedly disappeared. Her sudden disappearance triggered a massive search operation that involved the local police, family members, and concerned citizens.
The case took a grim turn when Patiala police found the missing trio’s belongings, which included their identity cards and bags, near the Bhakra Canal. Fearing the worst, the police concentrated their efforts on the adjacent water canal, suspecting that the three may have met with an unfortunate accident.
As days passed by, the search team made the tragic discovery of two bodies in the water, confirming the identity of Anuni’s friends as the victims. However, the whereabouts of the young Mizo student remained a mystery, intensifying the search efforts that remained focused on the canal.
The heartbreaking turn of events came on November 2, 2023, around 11 p.m., when another female’s lifeless body was located in the same canal. Following a painstaking search, the body was identified as that of Lalnunthiangi, known as Anuni.
Anuni’s devastated relatives have disclosed that her body will be repatriated to Mizoram after a comprehensive postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of her tragic death. The entire community mourns the loss of this promising young student.
