Mizoram Mourns Loss of Veteran Congress Leader, Ronald Sapa Tlau
Aizawl: New Delhi witnessed the passing of Ronald Sapa Tlau, a prominent Congress figure and former Rajya Sabha MP from Mizoram, on Wednesday morning. Tlau, who was 71, breathed his last at 8 am at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). His demise followed complications arising from an open heart surgery conducted two days prior.
The veteran politician’s family disclosed that he succumbed to multiple post-operative health issues, notably kidney failure, which precipitated a swift decline in his health. The family is preparing to transport his remains to Aizawl on Thursday, with the final rites planned for Friday at his Zonuam residence.
Born on February 4, 1954, in Hualtu village, Serchhip district, Tlau’s political journey culminated in his tenure as a Rajya Sabha member from 2014 to 2020. This period coincided with the Congress administration led by former Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla. At the time of his passing, he held the esteemed position of vice-president of the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
Throughout his extensive political career, Tlau occupied several pivotal roles within the state Congress organization, including general secretary, chief spokesperson, and chairman of the party’s medical cell. His contributions to the party and the state were significant and far-reaching.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma and other state leaders have conveyed their heartfelt condolences, expressing deep sorrow over Tlau’s death. Lalduhoma, in a statement posted on X, acknowledged the profound loss, emphasizing that Tlau’s memory would be eternally cherished and expressing gratitude for his unwavering dedication to the people of Mizoram.
