Mizoram MP Addresses Refugee Concerns, Calls for Collaborative Crime Prevention
In a meeting held at his New Delhi residence on April 26th, Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, the Lok Sabha MP representing Mizoram, engaged in a dialogue with twelve representatives from the Chin Refugee Community. The discussion centered on the pressing issues affecting both the refugee population and the host state of Mizoram.
Vanlalhmangaiha expressed his deep concern regarding the detrimental impact of illicit drug trafficking and other criminal activities perpetrated by certain Myanmar refugees within Mizoram. He emphasized the urgent need for collaborative efforts to mitigate these issues and ensure the safety and stability of the region.
In response, the Chin Refugee Community leaders conveyed their sincere regret for the unfortunate incidents and pledged their full cooperation in investigating the refugees residing in Mizoram. They committed to taking proactive measures to prevent the recurrence of such events.
The meeting also provided a platform for the community leaders to articulate the various challenges they encounter while living in India. Vanlalhmangaiha acknowledged their concerns and promised to thoroughly examine the issues raised, assuring them that he would take appropriate actions to address their problems. The scale of the refugee situation was underscored by the revelation that over 7,000 Chin refugees are currently residing in Delhi alone.
