Mizoram: NGO Coordination Committee Plans Rally Against Closure of India-Myanmar Border
Northeast Desk, 14th February: The NGO Coordination Committee convened a meeting on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at the Central YMA Committee Room to address concerns regarding the closure of the India-Myanmar border and the termination of the Free Movement Regime (FMR).
Presided over by Pu Lalhmachhuana, President of CYMA and Chairman of NGOCC, the meeting deliberated on the memorandum submitted to the Union Home Minister advocating for the abolition of FMR and Border Fencing.
In response to these developments, the committee decided to organize a protest rally on Tuesday, February 21, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Vanapa Hall. This rally aims to raise awareness and protest against the closure of the border and the termination of FMR.
The NGO Coordination Committee comprises various non-governmental organizations, including prominent groups such as the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), Mizo Students’ Union, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), MHIP (Mizo Women’s Front), and MUP (Mizo Elders Association). Together, they seek to address the pressing issues affecting the region and advocate for the rights of the people.
