Mizoram Police Seize Heroin and Methamphetamine Worth Rs 1.5 Crore in Champhai District
Northeast Desk, 5th September: In a major drug bust, Mizoram police seized over 2.5 kg of heroin and 50,500 Methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 1.5 crore in the state’s Champhai district, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.
The operation, carried out by a police team from Zokhawthar police station, took place during a routine check near New Hruaikawn village. The officers intercepted a suspicious vehicle, leading to a thorough search that uncovered 2.5 kg of heroin worth Rs 76.7 lakh and 50,500 Methamphetamine tablets, weighing 5.7 kg, valued at Rs 74.6 lakh.
Two individuals, identified as David Rosangliana (30) and Lawmsangzuala (27), both from Bulfekzawl village, were arrested for possession of the drugs. The seized narcotics are highly dangerous, with Methamphetamine being a potent stimulant that severely affects the central nervous system.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the police have initiated a detailed investigation to trace the drug network’s backward and forward links. Further legal action is expected as authorities work to crack down on drug trafficking in the region.
