Mizoram Political Parties Unite in Condemnation of Violence in Manipur’s Jiribam District
Aizawl: Political parties across Mizoram, including the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and opposition parties such as the Mizo National Front (MNF) and Congress, have collectively condemned the recent killing of a 31-year-old woman in Zairon Hmar village, located in Manipur’s Jiribam district.
The incident, which occurred on November 7, saw unidentified assailants attack the village, resulting in the woman’s death and the burning of six homes.
The tragic event has drawn strong reactions from Mizoram’s political landscape, with the ZPM taking to its official social media account to express shock and disapproval. The party’s statement read, “We strongly condemn the brutal killing,” emphasizing the need for peace and stability in the region.
The MNF also released a statement, describing the incident as “deeply distressing” and expressing sorrow that such violence persists while peace efforts are underway. The party called on the authorities to take immediate, decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice, underscoring the importance of maintaining security in vulnerable communities.
Similarly, the Congress party expressed strong disapproval of the incident, joining the other parties in condemning both the killing and the destruction of homes in Zairon Hmar.
The united response from Mizoram’s political spectrum reflects the growing concern over escalating violence in the region and highlights the need for enhanced security measures to protect civilians. As investigations continue, political leaders are urging Manipur authorities to act swiftly and prevent further incidents in the affected areas.
