Mizoram: RBI Aizawl Office Launches 10th Edition of Financial Literacy Week
Aizawl: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Aizawl office has inaugurated its annual Financial Literacy Week (FL Week) on February 24, with a formal event at the Auditorium of Mizoram Rural Bank Head Office.
Mizoram Governor Gen (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) presided over the function and released the Financial Literacy Messages Booklets, which will be distributed to 513 village libraries across the state to promote financial awareness at the grassroots level.
In his keynote address, T. Lhungdim, General Manager and officer-in-charge of RBI Aizawl, highlighted that the Reserve Bank has been organising Financial Literacy Week since 2016, focusing each year on a specific theme to educate targeted segments of the population. He noted that this year marks the 10th edition of the initiative, emphasising the importance of raising awareness on key financial topics through dedicated campaigns. A centralised mass media campaign will also be run throughout the week to disseminate essential financial literacy messages aligned with this year’s theme.
During his inaugural address, Governor Gen (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh commended RBI for dedicating a week each year to financial literacy and aligning its theme with the Government of India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 mission. He outlined the central government’s initiatives for credit guarantees, social security, and entrepreneurship development. The Governor urged banks and financial institutions in Mizoram to take proactive measures in expanding financial inclusion, ensuring that every eligible citizen is integrated into the formal financial system.
As part of the initiative, T. Lhungdim flagged off the Financial Literacy Van, which will travel across five districts – Aizawl, Serchhip, Lunglei, Hnahtial, and Saitual – to spread awareness on financial literacy themes and sub-themes. The event also featured a band performance by the Salvation Army Youth and cultural dances performed by children from the TNT Orphanage.
