Mizoram: Security Forces Seize Heroin and Foreign-Origin Cigarettes Worth Rs 1.23 Crore in Champhai
Northeast Desk, 10th January: In a collaborative effort, Assam Rifles, Police, and the Customs Preventive Force executed two successful operations in Champhai district, resulting in the confiscation of 139 grams of Heroin valued at Rs 97.30 lakh and 20 cases of foreign-origin cigarettes worth Rs 26 lakh.
Acting on specific intelligence, a combined team from Assam Rifles, Zokhawthar, and Champhai’s Customs Preventive Force conducted targeted operations. The comprehensive sweep in the areas of Crossing Point I, Zokhawthar, and Jail Veng, Champhai, led to the successful seizure of the entire consignment of Heroin No. 4 and the foreign-origin cigarettes.
A meticulous search operation unfolded across the general vicinity of Crossing Point I, Zokhawthar, and Jail Veng, Champhai, leading to the discovery and confiscation of the contraband.
Two individuals involved in the illicit activities were apprehended during the operations. They have been handed over to the Police Department of Zokhawthar and the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, for further legal proceedings.
The seized consignment, amounting to a total worth of Rs 1.23 Crore, marks a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to curb the illegal trafficking of narcotics and contraband in the region.
