Mizoram: SJVN Ltd Secures 2400 MW Pumped Storage Project

Northeast Desk, 26th July: State-owned SJVN Ltd has received a letter of intent from the Mizoram government for the allotment of a 2,400 MW pumped storage project, valued at over Rs 13,947 crore. The project, named the Darzo Lui Pumped Storage Project, will be developed on a nomination basis, with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to be signed within three months.

This project marks SJVN’s first venture in Mizoram, showcasing its expansion into new territories. The pumped storage project will be constructed across Darzo Nallah, a tributary of the Tuipui River, utilizing the available gross heads of upper and lower reservoirs of 770 meters.

The upper reservoir is planned for a minor stream of Hnahchanglui Nallah in Koladyne Tuipui River near South Vanlaiphai village in Hnahthial district, while the lower reservoir is proposed in Darzo Nallah, approximately 5.5 km upstream of its confluence with the Tuipui River near Vertek village.

The project’s estimated cost, inclusive of interest during construction (IDC) and financing costs at the April 2023 price level, is Rs 13,947.50 crore. This substantial investment underscores the significant scale and importance of the Darzo Lui Pumped Storage Project for both SJVN Ltd and the Mizoram government.
