Mizoram to Build House-Cum-Hostel for Bru Community in Aizawl, CM Lalduhoma Announces at Boisu Festival
Aizawl: In a landmark move aimed at promoting inclusivity and addressing the aspirations of the Bru community, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced the establishment of a house-cum-hostel for Bru students in Aizawl.
The announcement was made during the Boisu festival celebrations, the traditional New Year of the Bru community, which saw the participation of nearly 1,000 students studying and working in the state capital.
The proposed facility will be constructed at Tanhril on the outskirts of Aizawl, with financial provisions already secured for the project. Organised by the Bru Student Association (BSA), the event became a platform for the Chief Minister to reiterate his government’s commitment to fostering unity and equitable development across all communities in Mizoram.
Speaking at the festival, Lalduhoma highlighted the importance of cultural coexistence and underscored the value of diversity in building a peaceful and progressive state. He said that every citizen, irrespective of their community size or background, has the constitutional right to celebrate and preserve their identity and customs.
“Mizoram has always stood for harmony. The various communities in the state have coexisted in peace and mutual respect for decades, and this tradition must continue,” the Chief Minister said. He strongly denounced all forms of discrimination, religious intolerance, and coercion, stressing that Mizoram’s identity rests on the principles of peace and liberty.
The Chief Minister also used the platform to issue a strong appeal against drug abuse, calling it a grave threat to society. He urged all citizens to join hands in building a drug-free Mizoram, while also stressing the need to strengthen both legal mechanisms and customary laws to combat the growing menace of drug trafficking.
The announcement of the house-cum-hostel for the Bru community has been hailed as a positive step toward inclusive governance and the upliftment of marginalised groups within Mizoram’s diverse social fabric.
