Mizoram Traffic Police Destroy 176 Modified Exhausts in Crackdown on Noise Pollution
Aizawl: The Aizawl Traffic Police has seized and destroyed 176 modified exhausts and silencers exceeding the permissible sound level of 80 decibels.
The destruction, carried out in the courtyard of the Superintendent of Police’s office, followed a directive from the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s order dated November 13, 2024.
This measure is part of an intensified drive to curb noise pollution caused by motorcycles with modified silencers, a growing issue in Aizawl, particularly as the festive season approaches. With an expected increase in late-night vehicular activity due to events, the police have been conducting special nighttime operations to apprehend violators.
SP Traffic Police, Stephen Lalrinawma, expressed gratitude to Local Councils and Local Traffic Management Committees for their assistance in identifying offenders. He also emphasized the continued commitment of the Aizawl Traffic Police to enforce strict measures to ensure public peace and safety.
The public has been urged to report instances of noise pollution, drunken driving, speeding, helmetless riding, underage driving, and dangerous driving to the Traffic Control Room. Reports can be made via:
• Mobile (Call/WhatsApp): 9366553559
• Landline (Call): 03892313061
Authorities remain determined to address these violations to safeguard the community, particularly vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and the infirm, from stress and psychological distress caused by noise pollution.
