Mizoram Trucking Associations Announce Indefinite Suspension on National Highway 306

Mizoram: A coalition of truck owners and drivers from Mizoram, including the Mizoram Truck Driver Association, Mizoram Tipper Association Driver and Owner, and Mizoram Indane Driver Welfare, have declared an indefinite halt to their operations on National Highway 306.

The associations issued a statement citing unsafe road conditions as the reason behind their decision.

According to the statement, the groups had been assured by Chief Minister Lalduhoma that the contractor of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) would repair the dangerous stretch between Sairang and Durlui by October 9, 2024.

However, after inspecting the road themselves, the associations expressed dissatisfaction with the repair work, stating that it remains hazardous for truckers.

Following a meeting on October 10, the associations collectively decided to stop plying the roads between Sairang and Durlui until the necessary repairs are completed and the route is deemed safe for transportation.

This suspension is expected to significantly impact transportation and supply chains in the region, as National Highway 306 is a vital route connecting parts of Mizoram to other regions.

The associations have urged authorities to take immediate action to ensure the safety of drivers and restore the highway to a functional condition.
