Northeast Desk, 7th January: The Union Government has approved a fund of Rs 1313.28 crore for the construction of a 2.5 km twin tube uni-directional Aizawl bypass tunnel, coupled with a 2.1 km approach road on the Sairang – Phaibawk section of National High-6 in Mizoram.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, in his announcement, highlighted that this project, falling under Package-2 in Aizawl District and spanning a total length of 4.60 km, aims to address congestion issues within Aizawl City on NH-6. The primary objectives include navigating around heavily built-up areas, reducing traffic congestion, and enhancing road safety within the city limits.
“The initiative is geared towards ensuring a seamless traffic flow, free from city-related impediments. It is expected to reduce the distance between Sairang to Phaibawk by 22 kilometers, resulting in a significant 1.5-hour reduction in travel time,” added the minister.
