Mizoram: Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Campaign After PM Modi Cancels Visit
Northeast Desk, 29th October: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will step in for Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the latter canceled his planned campaign trip to Mamit in poll-bound Mizoram on October 30.
While Amit Shah will be campaigning in Mizoram, the date for his campaign is yet to be determined, as stated by state BJP media convener Johny Lalthanpuia. However, no specific reason was provided for the cancellation of Prime Minister Modi’s visit.
Additionally, another senior BJP leader and union minister, Nitin Gadkari, is expected to campaign in the northeastern state on Monday in preparation for the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for November 7, according to Lalthanpuia.
Amit Shah’s visit will include Mamit and the southern part of the state, with a focus on appealing to linguistic minority voters such as the Chakma, Bru, Mara, and Lai communities residing in the southern regions.
The BJP, which contested 39 seats in the last assembly polls in 2018, has fielded 23 candidates this time. On Friday, BJP president JP Nadda released the party’s manifesto, which includes promises of 33 percent reservation for women in government jobs and a resolution to the longstanding border dispute with Assam, among other commitments.
