Mizoram University Marks 25 Years of Academic Excellence, Celebrates Silver Jubilee
Aizawl: Aizawl witnessed a significant milestone as Mizoram University (MZU) commenced its year-long silver jubilee celebrations, marking 25 years of its contribution to higher education. Governor General (retd.) Vijay Kumar Singh, in his address, lauded the university’s pivotal role in advancing education not only within Mizoram but across the entire Northeast region. He acknowledged the collective efforts of the faculty, staff, and students, highlighting the institution’s vibrant academic community, scenic campus, and robust academic foundation.
Singh further emphasized the university’s recent achievements, including its ‘A’ Grade accreditation by NAAC and its consistent ranking within India’s top 100 higher education institutions by NIRF since 2016. He also pointed out the university’s impressive ranking by India Today as one of the top 30 universities in the country and among the top two Central Universities in the Northeast. This recognition, according to the Governor, underscores MZU’s academic strength and its potential to contribute significantly to India’s Act East Policy through enhanced academic and cultural engagement with South East Asian nations.
Ambassador (Retd) Gurjit Singh, attending the celebration, reinforced the university’s strategic importance within the Act East Policy framework. He noted Mizoram’s pivotal geographical position and its potential to both benefit from and contribute to key national initiatives in the region. The university, established in 2001, has grown to encompass 37 departments under 10 schools of study, including eight dedicated centres, offering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs. It currently serves students from over 20 states across India and hosts approximately 100 international students, with 40 affiliated colleges and one constituent college.
The silver jubilee celebrations, scheduled to continue until April 25 of the following year, will feature a diverse array of academic, cultural, and community-oriented events, reflecting the university’s commitment to holistic development and regional integration.
