Mizoram’s “Angel of Hope”: Sumo Driver Offers Free Rides to Cancer Patients and the Disabled
Aizawl: In the heart of Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district, a beacon of hope shines brightly in the form of a 36-year-old public carrier driver named Zadingliana.
Operating a Sumo vehicle (registration number MZ-07-3856) since 2018, Zadingliana has dedicated his services to transporting cancer patients, the blind, and the physically disabled – completely free of charge.
Covering the arduous 243-kilometer journey between Lawngtlai town and Aizawl, a trip that typically takes 8 to 9 hours, Zadingliana has consistently refused payment from those in need. While the regular fare for this route is Rs. 1000, he firmly believes in alleviating the financial burden that medical treatment places on these vulnerable individuals, many of whom hail from remote villages and rely on his vehicle as their lifeline to essential healthcare in the capital.
“I understand the financial burden of medical treatment on these families,” Zadingliana explained. “This is my way of giving back to society.”
Beyond providing essential transportation, Zadingliana offers invaluable emotional support to his passengers. He engages them in uplifting conversations, offering words of encouragement and joining them in prayers during the long journey. His kindness extends far beyond the act of driving, creating a sense of comfort and hope for those facing immense challenges.
For the countless individuals who have benefited from his selfless service, Zadingliana is more than just a driver; he is a symbol of compassion and humanity. His story serves as a powerful reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a profound and lasting impact on the lives of others.
